Championship Game #2 (Saturday: June 18th)
Game #15: CUBS WIN!! CUBS WIN!! HEY HEY AND HOLY COW!!! Cubs take down the Red Sox 11-8 to win the rookie division championship. The Cubs jumped out to an early lead getting 3 in the 1st, after holding the Red Sox scoreless, and 4 more in the 2nd to take a 7-1 lead after the first 2 innings. They added 3 more in the 4th on a Jacob Rumsey 3 run homer to increase the lead to 10-2 after 4. The Red Sox did get a late rally going getting 3 in the top of the 5th and 3 more in the top of the 6th to make it interesting, but the Cubs would hold on for the win. The offense was paced by Rumsey, Payton Moulder, Daulton James, and Sawyer Johnson, the first four batters in the lineup, all going 3-3 with a combined 8 runs scored. The bottom half of the order came through as well led by Jackson Miller and Isaac Joiner going 2-3. Jacob Hauser, Daniel Strumm, and Jaden Lawrence all chipped in with hits as well. The only Cub not collecting a hit was 3rd baseman Logan Smith, who has come through in the clutch so many times this year, he deserved a off day. The Red Sox were led by Jake Harris and Mason Loviscek both going 4-4, and Nick Chinn going 3-4.
It was a very successful year for the Cubs going 16-3, 12-2 during the regular season and 4-1 in the tourney. I would like to thank the assistant coaches Shelby Smith and Scott James for all their help this year, as well as my dad, Terry Rumsey for keeping the book for the team. I want to thank the parents for getting the kids to all the games and practices, as well as volunteering/being chosen to umpire on occasion. Most importantly I want to thank the kids for wanting to play and learn the game of baseball. It was a memorable season that later on in life, when they look at those championship trophies on their shelves, they will remember the fun they had and the friends they made along the way. Have a great summer Cubs!!! You earned it.
